The Cummings Muffler factory is housed in our community, and they have dictated an area need. Recently, the high school has formed a joint school-to-work program with Cummings for a creation of a welding/metalwork shop and courses. It is important the district supports this initiative and provides resources for our entire student population. Through data, we have found that a percentage of our students are not planning to attend a four-year college. Therefore, it is our responsibility to provide resources through our media centers and technology for them. The district has also invested in subscription to many career websites where students can complete inventory assessments to help guide them in their future.
The Wautoma Area School District continues to serve a large Hispanic population. It is imperative that we continue to provide resources for all students. A recent concern has been community communication. The District has set forth an initiative to provide a part-time interpreter position so that all members of our community can feel welcome and provided for.
Through the State of Wisconsin – Department of Administration Population projections, our community shows a large increase in the elderly. We feel it is imperative to provide our students with resources on jobs that will be available in health care.
A second part of this plan will be to form a committee to implement ways to involve the community in our schools. One idea will be to call for school volunteers for the media centers.
